The engagement ring French emperor Napoleon gave to wife Josephine is going on the auction block on March 24.
French auction house Osenat plans to sell the ring, described as in “good condition,” in a sale of Napoleon-related items next week. The ring features a pear-shaped diamond alongside a pear-shaped sapphire in a gold band. No carat sizes are listed.
The ring, which dates back to 1796, is expected to fetch between 18,000 euros and 20,000 euros (from $23,500 to $26,000). The official listing can be seen here: http://tiny.cc/3z6auw
The auction house says the ring is mentioned in the inventory of Farnborough as the ring that Napoleon gave Josephine for their engagement.
The ring was in the collection of the emperor’s grandson, Napoleon III, and wife Empress Eugénie, and then their descendants.
